ABOUT

The Leadership Development Institute for Young Women equips the leaders of the future by researching and bringing evidence-based, applied-neuroscience leadership coaching and development—normally reserved for executives in the C-suite and boardrooms—to reach girls and young women, where it can have the most profound impact—in high school classrooms.

This Institute and our mission to bring world-class leadership development and coaching to impact the next generation is powered by the Marshall Goldsmith 100 Coaches, the world's foremost thought leaders, experts and consultants in leadership development.

WHAT WE DO

The Leadership Development Institute for Young Women is committed to Advancing Young Women Leaders through Integrating World-Class, Evidence-Based Leadership Development and Coaching into the High School Academic School Day.

We achieve this mission by collaborating with selected values-aligned, character-focused schools to support them with the development of their own best-practice leadership program that leverages evidence based approaches, is tailored to their school needs and culture and includes access to the Institute's best-practice, evidence based applied-neuroscience curriculum, programs and resources for young women's leader development.

WHAT THE EXPERTS ARE SAYING

Carol speaking.jpeg

I would not allow my name to be associated with a program that did not reach a level of excellence that we would expect here at Harvard. The exercises in the program are strongly supported by the fields of positive and social psychology, with significant rigor. The leadership principles are drawn from the work I and others have done at Harvard Business School.

WHAT STUDENTS ARE SAYING

“The Leadership Course is not only helping me now, but it’s also going to help me more than any other class for college. I truly believe that leadership is changing the way I think and giving me the necessary mindset and skills to succeed in college and the real world.”

Kaleigh, Student

10/10. It is an amazing course. I wish every school had this.”

Catalina, Student

Before I started The Leadership Course, I didn’t see myself as a leader, not even close. Now, I not only see myself as a leader, I know that I am a leader and that my voice matters. During the leadership classes, I learn more about myself, what is important to me and that I can make a difference in the world. My confidence has grown so much!”

-Christina, Student

This has been the most impactful class I have ever taken. This class has taught me many things that I will be able to use long after high school and I'm incredibly grateful for that. In leadership this year I learned that anything is possible. With the help of your team you can truly accomplish anything. As long as you have courage and the right character, anything is possible.

Sarah, Student

"Thank you for helping me truly find myself. Throughout this course you have taught me to be myself and to step outside my comfort zone. You helped me become more optimistic about my future and be excited about not just the weeks and days but the years to come. Before, I had never really thought about what I wanted my future life to look like but now I know.”

Natashah, Student

Leadership has helped me with my "public speaking skills,"  I feel more confident than I did before. I am also motivated to work harder in school. When school work gets hard for me...leadership has taught me no matter what the challenge is you can get through it. It has really impacted my life in a positive way. I would not be the person I am today without our leadership course.

Marielle, Student

This class is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity that you cannot take for granted.

You are going to become the best you and leader that you can ever become.

Navina, Student

Take this class! Take this class! Take this class! I have grown so many personal skills from this class, and I believe that I can become an even better leader now because of them.

Desarae, Student

Never have I imagined myself to be a leader, I have always thought of myself as a follower with strong opinions, no more that that. This class has successfully taught me that anyone can be a leader and that you don't always have to know what to do next to be a leader. I now know you can use collaboration, courage, character, contribution and competencies, these five C's will get you where you need to go.

Jessica, Student

"I think this class is a great opportunity that every girl in the world should have!"

WHAT FACULTY ARE SAYING

“I loved watching the students grow in their confidence and self-awareness. They got to know their own strengths and gaps. They improved their teamwork and public speaking skills. They also focused on setting goals and shifting to a growth mindset in order to reach those goals. Through it all, they learned to use their voices to self-advocate. It was impactful for me to get to walk beside them every step of the way on their journey...

Honestly, I see education in a new way…After just nine weeks of leadership class, these students feel more motivated to learn and do their best. They are inspired to develop their strengths and apply them to have a positive impact on those around them…They want to set goals and reach them."

Becoming a National Girls Leadership School

NATIONAL LEADERSHIP SCHOOL SELECTION

"The leader for today and the future will be focused on how to be - how to develop quality, character, mind-set, values, principles, and courage."

-Frances Hesselbein, Presidential Medal of Freedom Winner, Girls Leadership Advisory Council

NATIONAL LEADERSHIP SCHOOL SELECTION CRITERIA

The Leadership Development Institute for Young Women collaborates with values-aligned schools that can have far-reaching positive impacts for the students, faculty, families and the school community. The Leadership Development Institute for Girls only works with select schools who already meet rigorous standards in academics and have an intentional and sincere commitment to character-based leadership development.

Schools that meet the criteria are awarded a National Leadership School Designation and receive access to the our curriculum as well as our world-class team of experts, support and resources that further impact their student experience and school culture.

We have a detailed selection process and only work with high-integrity, high-impact schools. School selection criteria incorporates the Doerr Institute's "First Principles" Framework for Evidence-Based Student Leader Development.

RICE UNIVERSITY'S DOERR INSTITUTE FOR NEW LEADERS' FIRST PRINCIPLES FRAMEWORK FOR EFFECTIVE STUDENT LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

The Institute's science-backed curriculum and program content leverages Doerr Institute for New Leaders at Rice University's “First Principles” Evidence-Based Framework that Establishes That for Effective Student Leader Development:

  1. Leader development should be considered a core function of the educational institution (an integrated part of the educational experience)

  2. Leader development initiatives should use professional leader developers and trained or certified coaches

  3. Leader development initiatives should use evidence-based approaches

  4. Rigorous measurement of desired outcomes (not just participation numbers) should be an ongoing part of the program
